How Hard Is It To Make This Shake?

If you have followed my blog for very long, you already know that I love making simple, delicious recipes for the entire family.

This apple shake is no different! It takes just a few moments to whip together.

What Ingredients Do I Need To Make An Apple Pie Shake?

With only 5 ingredients you can have a very tasty, protein-filled shake in just minutes.

You may already have several of these ingredients in your pantry and fridge.

What If I Don’t Like Cottage Cheese In My Shakes?

You are certainly entitled to your opinion on cottage cheese in smoothies and shakes.

Would you atleast give this recipe a try before banning it forever? 🙂

You could always use fat free Greek yogurt in place of the cottage cheese, or just use half yogurt and half cottage cheese.

Honestly, you would never know you’re eating cottage cheese after everything is blended so smoothly!

How Is This Shake Healthy For Me?

For those of you who follow the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle, you will understand when I say that this apple pie shake is an E.

Apples and unsweetened applesauce contain healthy carbohydrates and give you a good balance to your diet!

According to the Trim Healthy Mama plan, having an E meal or snack will fuel your body and give you energy.

Do I Really Need Healthy Carbs?

Yes!! Getting the proper healthy carbs in your diet, centered around protein, will give you energy and sustain you until your next meal.

Though people have been scared of eating carbs for so long, there’s really nothing to be afraid of when it comes to healthy carbs.

Eating healthy carbs, such as quinoa, oatmeal, apples, sweet potatoes, sprouted whole grain bread and more, will keep your metabolism guessing.

If you were to only eat low carb food and never give your body nutrient-dense carbs, you could potentially “take the fire out of your metabolic fuel-burning ability”. (to quote Serene and Pearl -THM authors)

Will This Apple Pie Shake Work For A Post Workout Fuel?

It certainly can work as a post-workout drink!

Maybe you’ve wondered what you should eat after a workout, or if you should eat at all.

The simple answer is this: having some protein after a workout is a must for speedy muscle recovery, particularly after weight training.

Eating something after a workout will help replenish your energy levels. Drinking water will keep you from getting dehydrated from sweating.

It is recommended that your post workout snack should be healthy carbs mixed with protein.

With 18 grams of protein and a dose of healthy carbs, this apple pie shake is a perfect example of a great post-workout drink, but there are many post-workout snack options to choose from!

If you are doing a 20 minute workout, for example, the Trim Healthy Mama Workins dvds (which I highly recommend), then you can choose to eat something a bit lighter.

This Bummy Builder shake is also a nice Trim Healthy Mama protein treat for after your workout!

Other Shakes & Protein Treats

You’re reading this and thinking “I don’t like apples or cottage cheese, especially if they’re mixed.”

Never fear, this Brownie Batter smoothie will save your day with its delicious, nutritious flavors and benefits.

For a fruity twist, you could also try a Strawberry Orange Julius…just add collagen or protein powder.

Another great treat for an afternoon pick-me-up or a post-workout snack are the Almond Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Balls.

There are so many protein snacks to enjoy, but you really must try these Oreo Peanut Butter Truffles! They are divine and a perfect little protein bite.

One last shake you may enjoy would be a Banana Peanut Butter Protein Shake! It is truly filling and delicious.

Why Is Protein So Important?

When protein is the center of your meal or snack, you have balanced nutrition that your body needs.

Protein is known to control our hunger responses. It signals to the brain a sense of satiety and makes us feel full within 20 minutes of ingesting!

Besides helping with weight loss, protein is wonderful for gut health, bone health and many other things.

The Best Sweetener For An Apple Pie Shake

The sweetener choice is ultimately up to you!

There are so many healthy, zero calorie sweetener options now, it’s not hard to find one in your grocery store.

I chose to use the Lakanto Classic Monkfruit sweetener for this shake.

If you should choose to use one of the Trim Healthy Mama sweeteners, such as Gentle Sweet or Super Sweet, you would need to use about 1/2 as much.

The best rule of thumb is to always add less than you think, because you can always add more after tasting!
