Oatmeal Is A Healthy Carb

Oatmeal is considered low fat and would be a healthy carb (or an E) for the Trim Healthy Mama.

When eating healthy carbs on this plan, you will want to keep your good fats to 5 grams or less per E meal.

Many of my readers follow the Trim Healthy Mama plan and know exactly what an S and an E meal is.

If you have never heard of Trim Healthy Mama, I’ll just say that it is a balanced way of eating and living!

Many people who follow THM have lost weight, gained weight (because they needed to), and have even maintained their weight for years.

Why Do We Need Healthy Carbs In Our Diet?

Believe it or not, healthy carbohydrates do have their rightful place in your diet.

We all could use a little more energy some days, right?

That is exactly what healthy carbs will give you…as well as the feeling of fullness after eating!

Healthy carbs are also needed to keep your adrenal gland healthy! Thyroid and adrenal function interplay together and they both need carbs to be at optimum performance.

Are Poppyseeds Healthy For You?

Poppyseeds have some amazing benefits health-wise.

  1. Poppyseeds can strengthen immune systems because they contain zinc and iron.
  2. Loaded with fiber, poppyseeds help lower cholesterol levels and ultimately improves heart health.
  3. Poppyseeds are known to help with sleeplessness because they are made from the opium plant and have a mild sedative effect.

What Sweetener Should I Use In Lemon Oatmeal?

To be honest, the choice of sweetener is up to you.

If you choose to not use any sweetener, that is totally fine too.

Because this oatmeal has lemon juice in it, you may experience a tart, sour flavor…therefore, sweetener is recommended!

I chose to sweeten my oatmeal with monkfruit golden sweetener made by Lakanto.

I’ve always loved the brown sugar flavor in my oatmeal, and the monkfruit golden sweetener tastes delicious!

Will Blueberry Lemon Oatmeal Keep Me Full?

Everyone will have a different opinion on how full they get when eating oatmeal.

It is highly recommended to have some sort of protein in your meal…to balance everything.

If you are hungry an hour after eating, most likely it is because you did not have enough protein with your meal.

There are 6 grams of protein in 1/2 cup of dry oats. That’s not alot, so you may need to add collagen to your oatmeal for extra protein.

You could also eat a couple hard boiled egg whites on the side.

The point is if you are eating this oatmeal and feel hungry 1-2 hours later, you can try adding a bit more protein to your meal.
