Summertime is coming soon and what’s better than a nice cold smoothie…a kid’s healthy smoothie of course!

Kid’s Healthy Smoothie

Ok, so it doesn’t have to be for kids alone, but I’m calling it a kid’s smoothie because my middle son created it several years ago.

I have three boys and they all love when I make smoothies for them.  My husband is not a smoothie man (unless it has chocolate or peanut butter in it).

So my boys definitely get their love for fruit and berry smoothies from their mother!

Don’t Be Afraid Of Crossovers

If you follow the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle you are probably familiar with the term “crossover”.

We tend to make it sound like crossovers are a scary thing and we need to stay far away from them.

If you are not familiar with this term, let me explain what a crossover is.

Crossovers are definitely on-plan!

It just means we combine our fuels instead of separating them.

When Can I Have A Crossover?

Keeping your S fuel and E fuel separate will allow weight loss.

In the THM big book it states “once you reach your ideal weight, depending on metabolism, Crossovers should be incorporated into your diet about 20 percent of the time so you can maintain a healthy body weight”.

If you start noticing weight gain, then back off on those Crossovers.

I love this plan because it helps you to lose weight, gain weight (if needed) and maintain your healthy weight!

THM is a lifestyle!  If we fail one day, it’s not over!

Honey…Another Scary Word?

No, honey, it is perfectly acceptable to have a bit of raw honey every now and then.

In a recent THM podcast Pearl and Serene were discussing raw honey and who should be eating it.

Having 1 teaspoon of raw honey daily is great for growing children.

Those who have reached goal weight can have up to a Tablespoon with your E meals.

Now if you are insulin resistant, raw honey may not be the best thing to incorporate.  You know your body the best!

Where Can I Buy Raw Honey?

To be honest, I buy my raw honey at the grocery store most of the time.  I buy local when I can!

We don’t go through it super fast since it’s just my boys who eat it.

Local raw honey is great if you can get it in your area!  I enjoy knowing where my honey came from.

I’ve heard that Manuka raw honey is some of the best.  I haven’t tried it personally, but I’d love to know if you have.

Kids Need To Eat Healthy Too

It’s easy for me to make a delicious supper meal for the family…all on plan.

But what about the other meals throughout the day?  It’s not about just ME, this is for my family as well.

I love making crossovers for my children.

Knowing that they are growing and eating healthy foods (for the most part) makes me a happy mom!

What’s In This Kid’s Healthy Smoothie?

As I mentioned earlier, my middle son created this smoothie.

Sometimes I allow my three boys to choose the ingredients for their own special smoothie and I’ll make it for them.

(Tip:  If you have a picky eater, let them pick out some of their own special fruit or veggies…they’re more apt to eat what THEY picked)

My oldest had some sort of berries and possibly spinach (yes, we love green smoothies).

I really don’t remember what the other two boys wanted for their smoothies, but somehow my middle son’s smoothie stuck!

Everyone seemed to love it.  The nice thing about his ingredients was they are foods we have on hand pretty much all the time!

I think of his smoothie flavor as peanut butter and jelly.  You can definitely add whatever berries you’d like.

He prefers strawberries!  The banana adds creaminess while the peanut butter and honey add their own great flavors.
