Low Carb Sausage Gravy

When you think of biscuits and sausage gravy, you probably wonder how it can be low carb.

After all, the gravy is normally made with white flour and milk…two ingredients that are full of carbs.

It is not complicated to get a delicious gravy using low carb ingredients.

There is no flour needed in this sausage gravy recipe!

How To Make Creamy Sausage Gravy

Because we’re not using any flour to help thicken our gravy, we need to have a creamy liquid of sorts.

I found that by incorporating cashew milk and heavy cream together, it really brings out the creaminess.

Cashew milk seems a bit more creamy than almond milk, but you are welcome to use almond milk if that’s what you have on hand.

Where To Find Breakfast Sausage

If you were to buy your breakfast sausage, there are several brands to choose from.

My family enjoys Butterball turkey breakfast sausage…the flavor is amazing and it is lower in fat and calories than pork sausage.

Making homemade breakfast sausage is another great option!

How To Store Homemade Sausage Gravy

Allow leftover gravy to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

This gravy can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

You can also freeze it in freezer bags for up to 3 months. It is advised to let the frozen gravy thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

If you would like the best and most fresh gravy, you can go ahead and cook up the meat and freeze it.

Then when you’re ready to make sausage gravy, just thaw the meat and make a fresh pan of gravy!
