What Do I Need To Make Quick And Easy Coleslaw?
There are two options here!
First, you can most definitely buy a head of cabbage and shred it by hand or in a food processor.
You could also be super quick and save time by purchasing a bag of pre-washed coleslaw at your grocery store.
Find a way that works best for your schedule.
Here are a few other ingredients you’ll need to make this coleslaw.
- shredded cabbage
- apple cider vinegar
- mineral salt
- celery seed
Is Coleslaw Healthy?
Yes, coleslaw is a great healthy option as long as you use the correct type of dressing.
Mayonnaise is a good fat that is added for a creamy texture.
The original recipe comes from my dad…and he makes it with added sugar.
It’s really yummy, but to cut back on the sugar, I am using Monkfruit classic. This sweetener can be measured like sugar cup for cup.
You still get the sweetness, but not from sugar!
Is Cabbage A Quick And Easy Meal?
It depends on what type of meal you are making with cabbage, but I say yes, cabbage can be simple to cook with and quick to get to the dinner table.
There are many restaurants that have a side of coleslaw you can order with your meal.
It’s probably not the worst thing in the world to order, but making homemade coleslaw right in your kitchen can be quick and easy!
It also gives you a good feeling that you made a special side dish for your family!
Why Should I Add Celery Seeds To Coleslaw?
Adding celery seeds to your coleslaw is totally up to you, but let’s talk about those little seeds for a moment, shall we?
If you’re like me, you probably didn’t know how many benefits celery seeds have.
For starters, these little seeds are one of most underrated cooking spices.
There are so many benefits from eating celery seeds…
- they are rich in nutrients
- may improve blood sugar levels
- supports bone health
- they may fight bacteria with their antioxidant properties
There are other great ways that the celery seed can keep our bodies in good health, so don’t forget to sprinkle in those tiny seeds when making coleslaw!
What Can I Eat With Coleslaw?
If you are following the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle, then this coleslaw recipe will be an S (or good fats).
So to keep your meal in an S fuel, you could have any of the S main dishes that you’d like, from the THM cookbooks or from a favorite blogger you follow.
One of my personal favorite things to eat with coleslaw is something with barbecue sauce in it…for example, these BBQ Cheesy Meatloaf Muffins would be perfect!

- 4 cups shredded cabbage (or 1 pound bag of store-bought coleslaw)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon mineral salt
- 1/4 cup Monkfruit classic sweetener
- 2-3 teaspoons celery seed
- Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl.
- Refrigerate for best flavors, but you can eat right away as well.
