Sweet Cheese Ball
Every winter around the holidays I see tons of recipes for cheese balls. It seems they only appear this time of year.
They make great snacks and appetizers for family gatherings and holiday parties…and there are so many flavors and varieties!
I’ve discovered in the past several years that I really REALLY like a sweet cheese ball.
A friend of mine used to make a cheese ball similar to mine. She brought it to our church’s ladies Christmas party for years. It was delicious and of course filled with sugar.
It was served with an assortment of mini teddy grahams, and it was definitely one of the popular snacks of the evening.
The other day I was experimenting (once again) in my kitchen, hoping that the first time I made this recipe would be a success!
Well, I mixed up the ingredients and wrapped it all up in a sheet of saran wrap, formed a ball and placed in the fridge to firm up.
I actually let it sit in my refrigerator for about 24 hrs (only because I got busy with other things that needed done).
It would probably be firm enough to roll in chocolate chips or nuts after a couple of hours.
It’s a great recipe to make ahead of time and store in the fridge until ready to “roll”.
I love serving this sweet cheese ball with strawberries and homemade cinnamon chips.
All I did for the cinnamon chips was cut a low carb tortilla wrap (like Mission Low Carb) in small triangles, spray the triangles with coconut oil or butter spray, sprinkle cinnamon on the tops and place on a paper towel in the microwave for about a minute or until crunchy like a chip.
They turned out perfect and tasted wonderful with the cheese ball. One whole wrap is only 4 net carbs, so it feels like a lot of chips for this yummy snack.
Be warned that this cheese ball is addicting!! My little boys kept asking for more (they liked dipping strawberries in it). It was a winner on the first try! I was happy and content with my delicious treat.

2 hrPrep Time
2 hrTotal Time
Ingredients
- 1 (8 oz) block of cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/8 teaspoon blackstrap molasses
- 3/4 cup THM Gentle Sweet
- 1 Tablespoon THM Super Sweet , optional (see note)
- 1/2 - 3/4 cup Lily's chocolate chips or THM chocolate chips
- extra chocolate chips for outside of ball
Instructions
- Mix cream cheese and butter until creamy and smooth.
- Add remaining ingredients except chocolate chips and mix well.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Wrap in plastic wrap and shape into a ball.
- Place in the refrigerator for a couple of hours so it can firm up a bit.
- When ready, add chocolate chips all around the cheese ball. You could actually use nuts if preferred since there are chocolate chips mixed in already.
- Serve with strawberries and/or homemade cinnamon chips (read my post for directions how to make cinnamon chips).
Notes
I personally don't like most desserts too sweet, so I would just use Gentle Sweet alone as the sweetener, but if you like your treats extra sweet, add the Tablespoon of Super Sweet. Taste as you go and see if you even need the extra sweetness!
