Containing only 3 ingredients this recipe is super easy to make and will leave you feeling satisfied!

What Is A Cheese Crisp?

Cheese crisps are literally crispy cheese!! That’s it!

There are a variety of ways to make them, but you will always use cheese as a base.

You may have heard of Whisps? They can normally be found in your local grocery store.

Whisps are a convenient way to get a crispy snack if you’re out and about and don’t want to wreck your diet!

This homemade version of a whisp is so tasty, and with the added taco flavor, they may just become your new favorite snack.

Ingredients For Taco Cheese Crisps

As already mentioned, this recipe calls for just 3 ingredients!

What’s better than a tasty recipe? A tasty recipe that takes very little time and prep!

  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • grated Parmesan cheese (green lid)
  • taco seasoning

What Taco Seasoning Can I Use?

The question should be “what should I not use?”

Store bought taco seasoning packets are something you should be careful of using.

Many of those packets have off-plan ingredients for the Trim Healthy Mama.

Here is a list of ingredients in an un-named store bought taco seasoning packet:

Chili Pepper, Maltodextrin, Salt, Onion Powder, Spice, Corn Starch, Sea Salt (Potassium Magnesium Chloride, Salt). Contains 2% Or Less Of: Vegetable Oil (Canola, High Oleic Soybean And/Or Sunflower Oil), Corn Flour, Silicon Dioxide (Anticaking Agent), Citric Acid, Sugar, Natural Flavor

Some of those ingredients do not sound very appetizing or healthy at all.

How To Make Taco Cheese Crisps

First of all, you will need an electric griddle or skillet!

Having an electric griddle is worth the investment.

You can fry food like pancakes, grilled cheese sandwiches (and cheese crisps) to make several at a time on a large griddle!

No oil is necessary for this recipe because you want the cheese to get nice and crispy.

Take about 1 Tablespoon of the cheese mixture and gently scoop on to the hot griddle.

Let it sit for about a minute or until it gets nice and melty.

Using a spatula, quickly slide it under a cheese crisp and flip over to crisp the other side for about a minute.

You will want to put each hot crisp on a cooling rack to allow air flow and cool down properly.

How To Store Cheese Crisps

Once your taco cheese crisps are cool, you will want to store them in an airtight container on the counter or in your pantry.

How Long Will These Crisps Stay Crispy?

For best results and highest quality, eat your cheese crisps shortly after making them.

The longer they sit in a container, they will lose some of their crispiness…still yummy, just not crispy.

You could always place them on a foil-lined cookie sheet and bake in the oven for just a few minutes until they crisp up again!

Can I Use Any Cheese To Make Crisps?

Any variety of shredded cheese should work for this recipe.

Cheddar cheese is likely the one to burn easily if it is not watched carefully, but most any hard cheese will be fine.

What Else Can I Eat With Low Carb Crisps?

If you think of these crisps as crackers, then you can use them in all sorts of low carb dips and spreads!

This cheese fat bomb recipe would make a super tasty dip for cheese crisps.

If you want to make your cheese crisps just a little extra crispy, you can crumble them in your soup or top your salad with them! Delicious addition.

Another way to eat these cheese crisps is to add a bit of cooked crumbled sausage to the mix!

This will make for a heartier snack, but adding meat is optional of course.

If you would rather prepare these crisps as a side dish for a meal, these chicken quesadillas are the perfect food to pair them with!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (or shredded)
  • 1 Tablespoon taco seasoning

Instructions

  1. Mix ingredients and spoon about a Tablespoon of it on a hot griddle (set at 300 degrees) or skillet.
  2. Let sit for a minute or until melty.
  3. Flip over and crisp the other side for another minute or so.
  4. Lay on a cooling rack to cool.
